阿宾顿,爸爸. ——玛丽莎·尼科西亚, 宾州州立大学阿宾顿分校文艺复兴文学副教授, has received the University’s 2022 President’s Award for 参与ment with Students.

The award is given to one faculty member University-wide each year who goes beyond his or her responsibilities to engage and encourage students in learning. Those honored with the award have made themselves available to interact with students outside class, 将学生与参与机会联系起来, and helped them build their confidence as learners and potential contributors to society.

“Student engagement enriches my research and life at 阿宾顿,” Nicosia. “I know that the undergraduate research 项目s and public-facing events that I've organized have been worthwhile for the students with whom I've had the honor and pleasure of collaborating.”

Connecting with students in creative ways presents challenges and rewards that Nicosia welcomes.

“Moving beyond standard classroom activities ignites student interest and provides them with other benefits as well. 当我们搬到图书馆的时候, 参观博物馆, 或者听一位受邀的演讲者, 学生与思想联系在一起, 空间, 书, 对象, 潜在的职业典范或导师, 以及我作为一名教师所不能提供的对话者,”她说。.

“When students are active researchers investigating an ingredient in a historical recipe manuscript, 或者为开放教育资源教科书编辑一首文艺复兴时期的诗, 或者当他们设计原创表演时, this work connects them to course or 项目 materials in new and different ways,尼科西亚继续说道.

Student engagement is a natural extension of her undergraduate pedagogy and her research interests in historical recipe manuscripts, 罕见的书, 编辑和面向公众的奖学金.
